Privacy Policy — CpuWidget
Last updated: 26 September 2026
Product: CpuWidget (Microsoft Store)
Publisher: Martin Lain
Applies to: the CpuWidget Windows desktop application published via Microsoft Store (Store ID 9N67VFM8M6Z5) and related PRO in-app purchase.
1. Summary
CpuWidget is a lightweight system-tray utility that shows CPU, RAM, and (with PRO) disk usage on your PC.
- Performance metrics are calculated only on your device.
- CpuWidget does not send telemetry, analytics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers to the publisher.
- CpuWidget does not operate its own backend that receives your personal data.
- Optional PRO purchase and license checks use Microsoft Store services (Microsoft’s privacy practices apply to that part).
2. What information the app accesses or processes
| Category | What | Collected by publisher? | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device performance metrics | CPU %, RAM usage, disk fill %, disk I/O | No | In memory on your PC (and optionally in a CSV file you export) |
| App settings | Sample interval, widget size/position, appearance, autostart, themes, etc. | No | Local Windows storage (ApplicationData / local app data) |
| PRO license state | Whether PRO is unlocked | No (publisher does not receive purchase details) | Queried via Microsoft Store APIs on your device |
| Purchase / account data | Payment, Microsoft account | No — handled by Microsoft | Microsoft Store |
CpuWidget is a Win32 / full-trust style desktop app. Microsoft Store Policy treats such products as inherently able to access personal information on the device; this policy describes what CpuWidget actually does.
CpuWidget does not access: contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, camera, precise location, browsing history, or files outside what you explicitly choose when exporting CSV.
3. How information is used
- Metrics — only to display tray icon values, widget graphs, and (PRO) history / CSV export.
- Settings — only to remember your preferences between launches.
- Store license — only to unlock PRO features you purchased.
- There is no profiling, interest-based advertising, or sale of data by the publisher.
4. Storage and security
- Metrics and settings remain on your device.
- No publisher-operated cloud storage for CpuWidget user data.
- PRO CSV export is user-initiated: you choose if and where to save the file. The file then lives under your control; delete or move it like any other local file.
- Because data is not transmitted to the publisher, there is no publisher server encryption path for app metrics. Device security follows your Windows user account and OS protections.
5. Disclosure to third parties
The publisher (Martin Lain) does not disclose CpuWidget metrics or settings to third parties.
The only third party involved in normal Store distribution is Microsoft, when you download or update CpuWidget from Microsoft Store, or purchase / restore the PRO add-on (pro_unlock / Store ID 9PLMX19GCDVZ).
In those cases, Microsoft processes the transaction and license under Microsoft’s own terms and privacy statement. CpuWidget only reads license entitlement (PRO unlocked or not).
CpuWidget does not include third-party analytics, ads, or social SDKs.
6. Your controls and access
- Change or clear app preferences in CpuWidget → Settings, or by uninstalling the app.
- Turn Start with Windows off in Settings or in Windows Startup Apps.
- Export (PRO) or delete any CSV history files you created.
- Manage Store purchases and account data through your Microsoft account and Microsoft Store.
- Stop all local processing by closing or uninstalling CpuWidget.
Because the publisher does not hold a copy of your metrics or settings on a server, there is no separate “download my data from our cloud” request — the data is already on your PC.
7. Children
CpuWidget is a general utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. See also Microsoft Store age rating for the product listing.
8. International / legal
This policy is provided so you understand CpuWidget’s data practices. Where applicable law (including GDPR if you are in the EEA/UK) requires a privacy notice, treat this page as that notice for CpuWidget. For Store purchases, Microsoft is the merchant of record for the transaction.
9. Changes
If CpuWidget starts collecting or transmitting additional personal information, this policy will be updated before or when those features ship, and the “Last updated” date will change. The current version will always be published at this URL.
